The Graduate Programs in Political Science doctoral program at the University of Oklahoma is one of the most diverse, well-established doctoral programs in the region. We are one of the very few doctoral programs in political science that offers seven fields of study, which include American politics, comparative government, international relations, public administration, public policy, political theory and research methods. Our doctoral students work closely with our nationally recognized faculty, who publish widely, are active in leadership positions in national and international professional associations, and are involved in editing leading journals in their fields. Students play a significant part in the intellectual life of the Department, participating in informal research-in-progress sessions, attending talks hosted by job candidates, and preparing papers for presentation at professional conferences.
Our doctoral program is designed for full-time students interested in building a strong theoretical foundation and advanced research skills. The Department pursues several means of guiding students in the process of professional socialization, including financial support for paper presentations at national and regional conferences. We are proud to see many of our recent graduates completing the program within 4-6 years and landing great jobs as faculty members, researchers, administrators and many other fantastic career paths.
